Presenting a delightful three-hour tour of the bacari (wine bars) of the romantic “Canal City” of Venice! Let our English-speaking guide escort you over the footbridges and through the winding ways. You’ll be amazed to find secluded, cave- like oases of food and drink that serve world-renowned cicchetti. These are bite-sized appetizers that brilliantly showcase the rich and varied flavors of Italy.
As you stroll, you’ll see historic Campo della Maddalena, a medieval town that has changed little over the centuries. Quaint houses with unusually ornate chimney pots, and a church on the canal, make for interesting photographs. Then it’s on to an historic inn to feast on “Venice tapas,” as the cicchetti are fondly called. Sample a variety of olives, polenta and seafood as you learn the history of this charming setting.
Moving on to Strada Nuova, you’ll stop in an interesting 18th Century niche known for its zesty polpette (meatballs). Next is the Campo Santa Sofia by way of a traghetto (large gondola ferry) over the Grand Canal. In the Rialto Markets area you’ll enjoy more delicious cicchetti and regional wines, including Prosecco. Each bacari you’ll enter has its own unique ambiance; each will immerse you in a culture that appreciates good food and the company of good friends.
Your tour will conclude on the steps of the famous Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge), with its distinctive inclined ramps and portico. From here, your guide will bid you farewell.
